Heritage Restoration Project Biographies 2000
Location: Warwick Neck, Warwick, RI
Date Completed: December 2000
The project's scope included the reintroduction of original elements of the house, reviving the original configuration of the rooms and a host of modern amenities. While original windows and trim were reproduced, radiant heat and chef's kitchen were carefully designed and installed. A Master bath and guest bath utilized period fixtures, with a featured new cast iron claw foot bathtub. The kitchen floor was flagstone with intermittent Moravian tile, custom cabinets and granite countertops. A sun porch was reintroduced and winterized with built-in bookshelves and the flagstone floor. Future work includes the full restoration of the exterior.
Porch Restoration
Location: Bristol, RI
Date Completed: July, 2000
The project began as a small restoration of some wood Greek revival fluted columns, and later mushroomed into a complete restoration of the main porch. After the carpenter ants were evicted, the timber frame structure was documented and reconstructed, re-using original timber frame techniques and materials. Also, the flat porch roof was reroofed in EPDM, for greater durability and longevity. Ornamental aspects of the columns were reproduced, including the hand carved capitol and flutes.
Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum
The project was made possible through a Champlain Foundation Grant, with the intent to restore the Tea House through an educational and crafts training collaborative. The project used the combined resources and expertise of Roger Williams University's Historic Preservation Program, the Institute for Preservation Training, and Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum. Students from Roger Williams University's Historic Preservation program participated in the project, through crafts training, research, and project documentation. Since 1995, the Institute for Preservation Training had several student exchanges with Roger Williams University, providing the guidance and expertise for each preservation project activity.

Date Completed: January 2000
Owner: New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Office
Caumsett State Historic Park in Long Island, contains over 1500 acres of woodland, meadows, rocky shoreline, salt marsh and former farm and garden areas. Willow Tree Farm is a concessionaire of the park, using the c.1920, 10,000 square foot horse barn. Suffering years of neglect, Willow Tree Farm requested the restoration of 31 casement windows, about 1/3 of the total windows, including the sash and hardware. Also, IPT installed interior magnetic storm windows. The windows are part of the long term restoration of the entire farm complex.
